Boston, hub of web design and interactive agencies

Boston is “the hub of the universe,” according to local legend. (Even though Oliver Wendell Holmes actually referred to our Statehouse as merely the “hub of the solar system.”)

That seems like a stretch, especially to astronomers. But Boston may be trending toward a similar claim to fame. We might become the hub of web design and interactive agencies – just on planet Earth, though.
LaunchPad media is proud to be part of Greater Boston. (Watertown is a suburb.) And many other web design and interactive agencies are thriving here, as well.

Why is Boston a virtual hub of the virtual world?

Talent and brainpower are rewarded and celebrated here. Designers want to live where they know they will grow, intellectually.

Education is a big part of it. We have some of the greatest colleges: M.I.T., Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern, Harvard… There are 52 institutions of higher learning here.

Culture is part of it, too. We have the Museum of Fine Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Berklee School of Music, and performance centers like the Strand and Huntington Theater. Creative cuisine is also catching on. We have an increasing number of celebrity chefs and trendy restaurants.

Our local economy is increasingly future-oriented. That helps too. Web designers are inspired by entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs — whether they’re in research, biotech, robotics, environmental engineering, venture capital or digital entertainment.

The business and entertainment of sports is a draw, too. I don’t want to sound too parochial, but Boston has won a lot of championships. Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, New England Patriots… If you don’t count baseball championships, we’re way ahead of New York!

And in technology, Boston is one of the most “wired” cities and a long-time leader in high tech.
There are a lot of great communities in America. And at LaunchPad, we’re proud to have clients from around the country. But virtually speaking, I really think Boston can become the hub of web design and interactive agencies. That’s not quite “hub of the universe,” I know, but I’d settle for that claim to fame.
